Happy Fourth of July!

We had a fun Fourth of July! We celebrated by ourselves here in Missouri. It was definitely a holiday to remember! Blake got 2 days off which was awesome. I froze some toys in ice for Harper to excavate. She thought that was pretty fun. We went swimming and bought some fireworks. Harper was so excited about the snap-its that we had to use a box in the parking lot!
I thought it would be fun to go camping... boy was I crazy! We have been having 105 degree weather for the past week. It has been ridiculous! We thought it would be a good idea to camp in the backyard since it was Harper's first time and we didn't really know how that would go. She was thrilled with the whole experience! She couldn't wait to go in the "house" (tent), loved gathering sticks, of course she liked the fire and eating S'mores.  I thought it would cool down at night-time, you know like it does back home, in the desert... Well it didn't! We tried to handle the heat for as long as we could. Harper didn't seem to care about it and passed out quickly in the tent! At about 1:00 am it was still around 90 degrees outside... being 7 months pregnant and just the fact it was ridiculously hot, I couldn't take it anymore and headed inside. While doing this I woke Blake up, Harper was still passed out. About 20 minutes later in came the other two, Harper still asleep! Well so much for a successful camping trip! We both agreed that it was the MOST MISERABLE camping trip ever and we have both had some bad camping trips!
On the fourth we enjoyed some swimming and some American food: hot dogs, jello, grilled cheese, and root beer! Blake and Harper played Mario. Well Blake played Mario and Harper laughed at it. Even though it was still daytime we went and fired off some fireworks behind a movie theater because they were banned here in Lake Saint Louis. It was really fun. Harper's mind was blown! She wanted to hold the sparklers but would get scared once we actually handed them off! We then went and watched the fireworks out over the lake. It was really nice! Harper enjoyed the fireworks a lot. We had to leave early though because Harper kept asking to go home and go to bed! O well!

All in all it was pretty fun!

  1. I commend you for trying to camp! That would be absolutely horrendous right now. Good thinking on the backyard though, I bet you were so glad you could go inside to your nice air conditioning! Jeff and I were reminiscing about Nashville and how you and I ran when they set off the big fireworks! Ha!

  6. Well, you were a good sport for even trying the camping! Harper looks cute and so grown up - she's losing her baby fat, that's sad! We're sorry that you and Jeff and your families couldn't be here for the 4th. Maybe next year!
